With the hustle and bustle of the silly season out of the way, it's time to take a breather and reflect on your space. Whether your old lounge suite is due for a refresh, or your donation boxes are piling up in the spare room, it's the perfect time to reset and create your dream space to come home to each day.

The art of decluttering

What would the New Year be without a good declutter? The key to a home reset starts with taking stock of your belongings, noting what brings you joy and perhaps what items you haven’t thought about in several months.

Being mindful with what you keep in each space will ensure things stay tidy, with everything having a home to go back to. Take advantage of storage options like media units, sideboards, or lockers to neatly tuck away the bits you love so they’re right there when you need them.

Once you’ve cleared the clutter and wiped down surfaces, consider donating goods that haven’t been used in some time or pass onto friends and family. Your space will feel a whole lot lighter!

Make way for the pieces you really love

Now that you’ve cleared out the clutter, it’s time to ensure you’re surrounded with furniture that reflects your style and personality. Look at pieces you have and consider what might complement and contrast them.

If you’re just getting started, you might consider core lounge pieces in soft, muted fabric or leather, then add some flair with colourful accents like armchairs and cushions.

If things are feeling a little scrambled, play around with a mood board to capture the look you’re aiming for and see how different elements could pair together. This can help to carve out which colours, tones and textures will work in different rooms of the home. Don’t forget to consider details like the wall colour and flooring, to help to create a cohesive and inviting space.

Create the perfect nook

Everyone needs a hideaway from the chaos of everyday life, whether it’s a spot to curl up with a good book and a hot cuppa, or simply to tackle your inbox in peace. Start by selecting a core piece of furniture that you'll want to sink into after a long day. That might be a snuggly Sheepskin Beanbag, a cosy armchair like the Marcus Swivel Chair or, if you've got the space, spread out with the Finnian Chaise.

A small side table is a great way to keep the essentials within easy reach. The Tray Top Ottoman is a firm favourite, as they flip from a side table to ottoman whenever you need it - you really can have it both ways!

However it looks, be sure to layer up your new spot with cushions and throws, making it extra cosy and ready for the cooler months.

The finishing touches

Now it’s time for the finishing touches that will make coming home even more special. If your walls are feeling a bit bare, wall art can go a long way to add colour and depth. Consider styling vases with dried florals or displaying home fragrance in a calming scent to add to the ambience of your space.

Keep things feeling fresh and inviting with a home décor refresh every now and then. Moving pieces around to different spots is also a great way to take stock of what you have.

There’s nothing like an organised space to reduce your stress levels, increase productivity and help you reach your goals for 2024.
